Founded by longtime USU supporter Eric Laub and former head football coach Gary Andersen, the Blue A Collective is committed to providing a competitive edge in the Mountain West Conference for Utah State Athletics. All board members are volunteering their time and expertise, and will not be compensated.
​Eric Laub
Co-Founder

Eric Laub, is a 2019 graduate of USU. He graduated magna-cum-laud from the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business in Business Administration.
Eric has been employed at Cache Valley Electric for the past 4 years.
A passionate Aggie fan since birth, Eric is excited for the opportunity to lead Utah State into the collective space.
Nick Eliason
Board Member

Nick Eliason is currently a partner at Sandlot Partners, where he has been an active investor for the past 4 years, managing investor relations and fundraising efforts.
During his 15+ year career at Vivint Smart Home, Nick played a pivotal role in team building and management, overseeing hundreds of sales professionals. He was instrumental in expanding Vivint's presence in the Texas market by establishing and managing decentralized sales offices in key cities.
Nick's innovative mindset led to the creation of Vivint's new energy platform, where he and his partners devised a solution for selling smart home and solar services concurrently, capitalizing on the emerging residential solar industry.
In his pursuit of self-mastery, Nick reads over 2 books a month and has completed programs at Harvard Business School, including the Program of Leadership Development and the Program of Launching New Ventures, Strategy, and Negotiations, earning alumni status from HBS.
Known for his exceptional networking skills, Nick has created numerous opportunities for himself and others. Outside of work, Nick enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, whether it's on the lake during summers or cheering on the Aggies in the fall and winter. He was born and raised in Cache Valley, grew up an Aggie fan and continues to bleed blue.
Jim Laub
Board Member

Jim Laub, is a 1974 graduate of USU. Jim received USU's Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2004, USU's Spirit of Old Main Award in 2006, an honorary doctorate degree in business and entrepreneurship in 2007, and was inducted into the USU Hall of Fame in 2013. Laub was also inducted into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame in 2019. He has served on the National Advisory Board for USU Athletics, President of the Big Blue Scholarship Fund, and has also served as a USU Trustee and on the USU Foundation Board of Directors.
Jim and Carol Laub have made significant financial contributions to Utah State Athletics and facility projects over the years, including the Stan Laub Indoor Facility and the Jim & Carol Laub Athletics-Academics Complex at the north end of Romney Stadium, which houses many of USU's sports programs including football. Other amenities inside the Jim and Carol Laub Athletics-Academics Complex include the Steve Mothersell Athletics Hall of Honor, the Dale Mildenberger Sports Medicine Complex and the J. Ken Seamons Equipment Room, as well as USU's academic services. Jim was also behind the construction of the Chuck & Gloria Bell Soccer Field as well as the installation of lights at Romney Stadium in 1992. Jim is an annual supporter of the Merlin Olsen Fund and was a key contributor to the off-court facilities project inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
Laub is the Chief Executive Officer of Cache Valley Electric. Jim and his wife, Carol, reside in Logan, UT and have two sons, Mark and Eric.
Steve Mothersell
Board Member

A native of Modesto, California, Steve C. Mothersell Sr. is a 1975 graduate of Utah State University. He was the recipient of an athletic scholarship and played tight end for the Aggies in ’73 and ’74. After graduation and a brief employment with the World Football League, he returned to Modesto and began his professional career in the real estate industry. He formed his own home building and land development company in 1984, and since then has grown it into one of the largest privately owned home building businesses in California’s Central Valley. SCM Corporate Group and its affiliates, SCM Homes of California and SCM Construction Management Services, have sponsored and overseen the development of hundreds of single-family homes, condominiums and apartments in northern California and northern Nevada. Mothersell is a member and past director of the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB), a member and past director of the California Building Industry Association (CBIA), and member, director and past president of the Building Industry Association of Central California (BIACC), from which he received the Builder of the Year award in 1988. Mothersell is a strong advocate and supporter of Utah State athletics, having served as a board member and chair for the Utah State University Foundation during its largest capital gain in the University’s history. In addition, Mothersell was inducted into the USU Hall of Fame in 2016 and is currently a member of the USU National Athletics Advisory Board. Mothersell four children and eight grandchildren and resides in Loomis, California and Sun Valley, Idaho with his wife Diane.
Blake Kirby

Blake Kirby is a 1992 graduate of USU and has been a longtime supporter of USU and USU Athletics. Kirby has served on USU's Foundation Board, the National Advisory Board for USU Athletics, and the National Advisory Board for USU's Huntsman School of Business.
Kirby is a major contributor to USU Athletics, and the court of the Wayne Estes Center bears his name.
Kirby is managing director and owner of Bandon Holdings, a diversified Family Office investment company. He is active as a board member for several of his portfolio companies, which include Creminelli, Snap Finance, and The Builders Fund investment committee.
Kirby founded Inovar, Inc., which became the largest electronics manufacturing service company in the intermountain region, providing engineering design and manufacturing services to high growth OEMs in the medical device, military defense, communication, and aerospace industries. Inovar’s primary facility is in Utah, and in 2016 a second operation in Mexico was opened.
Kirby has one daughter, Bailey and resides in Salt Lake City, UT.
